Crockpot Chuck Steak Stroganoff - Little Family on the Mountain

One night I was trying to decide what to do with a chuck steak in my fridge, and we didn’t have a lot of other ingredients in the house. I googled a recipe for white sauce, realized how easy it was to make and added parmesan cheese to add more flavor. I put the chuck steak in the crockpot, added the sauce and voila! Very simple, we were both thrilled at how it turned out. The next time I made it, I added mushrooms and onions in the crockpot and it turned out even better! I call it Crockpot Chuck Steak Stroganoff but it’s really more like Crockpot Chuck Steak and alfredo sauce? This white sauce I make doesn’t really have cream in it. Serves: 4 people
Prep Time: 15 min
Cook Time: 8.5 hours


In the Crockpot:
2 1/2 pounds chuck steak
8 oz sliced mushrooms
1 onion
1 tsp Worchestershire sauce
salt and pepper to taste

2 tbsp butter
2 tbsp flour
1 cup milk
salt and pepper to taste
1 cup Parmesan cheese


Slice onion and place it in the bottom of the crockpot. Add mushrooms and then lay the chuck steak on top. Add salt and pepper as desired, and about 1 tsp worchestershire sauce. Cook on HIGH 4 hours or LOW 8 hours.
Drain juices, shred steak and return to crockpot and put on LOW. In a saucepan, melt butter. Whisk in flour and mix thoroughly until smooth. Slowly whisk in milk and stir until mixed well. As is heats it will thicken, stir frequently as it starts to boil. When the sauce starts thickening, add parmesan cheese.

Add sauce to crockpot and let cook as long as you like (technically it’s finished, but I think it gets better the longer it cooks)
Serve over pasta or mashed potatoes.
