Pattern Review: Painted Canyon Cardigan

I fell in love with the painted Canyon Cardigan pattern the moment I saw it. It was the first of what would be many of Ashlea’s patterns that I’d purchased. If you haven’t visited you should definitely go there, Ashlea has so many amazing patterns! This one is one of my absolute favorites, and I’ve made so many of them! I think they’re my customer’s favorite too, besides my Edd Slouchy Beanie.

I made my very first Painted Canyon Cardigan for myself and added skull buttons on it. Every time I wear it I get so many compliments! I was the very first piece of clothing that I made (besides hats) and I was nervous at first that it would come out too big or too small, but Ashlea’s patterns are so well written and she stresses the importance of gauge so it came out perfect! I intentionally made mine bigger using a larger hook. I like big cozy sweaters 🙂

I loved working on this pattern so much I stayed up until 2 AM one night crocheting. I ran out of yarn 😅

I think I had one more sleeve to do and the border around the edge of the cardigan and the sleeves.

(I use bobby pins as stitch markers)

You can see my finished Painted Canyon Cardigan in my gallery!

The Painted Canyon Cardigan pattern comes in sizes 0 to 28W as well as child sizes. There are options to add inside or outside pockets, a button or a belt and belt loops closure, a collar or a hood… the possibilities are endless! That’s what I love so much about this pattern.

This one was a commission, the customer asked if it could be sleeveless.

Chevron stitch at the bottom with a belt closure.

This one is my favorite color combo I’ve made. It’s Red Heart Super Saver in Fruity Stripe. It also matched my hair haha. Look at the little sun buttons!
