I’m so happy that velvet has made a comeback! I’ve jumped on the crochet velvet scrunchie bandwagon and started whipping up some from my scrap velvet yarn from making this bomber cardigan a while back, and another top that I’ll be releasing the pattern for soon!
I know there are a lot of patterns for these velvet scrunchies already floating around the internet but everybody has their own rendition of how to do things, right? And there can be so many different ways to do something and all of those ways can be correct; that’s what I love so much about creating!
This pattern is crazy easy, you’ll be whipping up velvet scrunchies in no time!
Embroidery needle (I just got these finishing needles and I love them so much haha)
Ch – chain
Sl st – slip stitch
St(s) – stitches
Tc – triple crochet
There is no gauge for this pattern.
I like to stretch out the hair tie before I start and occasionally as I bunch the stitches together while I’m crocheting.
Rnd 1 – Take the yarn and loop it around the hair tie.
Ch 3, tc in hair tie. Keep tcing around, pushing the sts back as you go.
Add as many tcs as you’d like around the hair tie (I usually do about 60 or 70 sts, depending on the yarn I’m using). You don’t want so many sts that it starts stretching out the hair tie, but enough that the sts kind of ruffle.
When you feel like you have enough sts around, sl st to the first tc and fasten off. Weave in ends.
