Basic Barefoot Sandals

It’s cool enough outside now that I can actually walk around barefoot without burning the crap outta my feet! Did you know that there are health benefits to walking barefoot in the woods? Not only does it help improve balance, but there are several studies that indicate walking barefoot (or “earthing”), especially on natural ground allows your body to absorb electrons from the earth, basically regrounding you. It also boosts your immune system, helps you sleep better, and reduces anxiety and stress!

I made some barefoot sandals a few years ago with acrylic yarn, but once I discovered cotton yarn I fell in love! I remade the pattern again and wrote it down to share with you guys. This pattern is based off the Three Round Triangle by Teena Sutton Murphy.

G/6 (4mm) hook

Embroidery scissors

ch – chain

ch sp – chain space

dc – double crochet

rnd – round

sl st – slip stitch

st – stitch


This pattern is based off this three round triangle pattern by Teena Sutton Murphy

Gauge is not important in this pattern, you can make the sandals bigger or smaller by going up or down hook sizes and changing the yarn weight. I find that a G hook and worsted or DK yarn make sandals that fit me pretty well. You can add or remove chains on the toe loop to also adjust the sandals.


Rnd 1 – ch 4, sl st into beginning ch to form loop. Ch 4, *dc into loop, ch 1*. Repeat from * to * four times. Sl st into top of ch 3. (6 dc and 6 ch sp).

Rnd 2 – sl st into next ch sp. Ch 3, 2 dc in same ch sp, ch 3, 3 dc in same ch sp. *2 dc in next ch sp. 3 dc in next ch sp, ch 3, 3 dc in same ch sp.* Repeat * to * once. 2 dc in last ch sp. Sl st in top of ch 3. (32 dcs and 3 ch 3 sp)

Rnd 3 – ch 3, dc in next two sts. *3 dc in next ch sp, ch 3, 3 dc in same ch sp. Dc in next eight sts.* Repeat from * to * once. 3 dc in next ch sp, ch 3, 3 dc in same ch sp. Dc in the next five sts. Sl st to top of 1st dc (42 dcs and 3 ch 3 sp)

Rnd 4 – sl st in next 4 sts. Sl st in next ch sp, ch 10. Sl st in same ch sp. Sl st in next 14 sts. *Sl st in next ch sp. Ch at least 50 (you can ch farther if you want it to tie higher up on your leg). In the back loops of the ch, sl st in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch back down.

Sl st in same ch sp.* Sl st in next 14 sts. Repeat * to * once, then sl st in next eight sts. Sl st in 1st sl st. Fasten off and weave in ends.

You can add jewelry charms or bells to the end of the straps to add a little flair to your barefoot sandals 🙂
